For many years, my collection of Life Quotes was ranked number one on the Altavista Search Engine for the search term Life Quotes.

When Yahoo and Google came along, that page was ranked number one on Google and Yahoo for Life Quotes most of the time but every couple of months the would suddenly be showing nothing but life insurance companies on the first three or four pages of their results for the search term Life Quotes.

That seemed kooky to me. I used to send feedback to Google and Yahoo on a regular basis saying:

“When people search for Life Quotes they are looking for Quotes about Life, not quotations for Life Insurance.” I would send that note to their feedback form every couple of months when they would take all the quotation sites out of their index and put life insurance companies there instead. Both Google and Yahoo finally fixed the problem … they took away their feedback forms so no one can complain about poor quality results.
